Hope sang out loud and clear Sunday, October 2nd when Listen Up TV,
Jacob Moon and the Soul Gospel Experience joined forces in a concert to
raise funds for people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Listen Up TV, a weekly television program that explores the spiritual side
of news and current events, devoted two programs to report on the
efforts of churches who rushed to the aid of residents of Waveland,
Mississippi.
Lorna Dueck, Executive Producer and host of Listen Up, travelled to
Waveland in September and was overwhelmed by the devastation.
After enduring the eye of Katrina, seven thousand residents found they
had lost 65% of their town.
Three churches from Alabama have determined to help. Using
dollars from their own church building fund they have established "Kamp
Katrina" where Waveland residents shop for free, picking up food,
clothing, hygiene and home needs. Each day thousands are fed, receive
medical attention and spiritual counselling. Lorna observed, "In
twenty years of reporting, I have never seen such dramatic spiritual
activity underway."
Over 200 people gathered at Compass Point Bible Church for "Hope Sings
- A benefit concert for Katrina Relief". Jacob Moon was joined on
stage by a full band and members of the Soul Gospel Experience who took
listeners on a soul-stirring journey - stopping frequently in "soul
gospel" territory. Over $4,000 was raised that will be forwarded by
Listen Up to Genesis Church for "Kamp Katrina".
ListenUp TV is a weekly television newsmagazine dedicated to coverage and analysis of faith and culture in Canada.
