An
American tragedy, a drowned city,
a billion dollar blow out on the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Katrina has
changed the future for Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. A disaster
forewarned and forseen, but one that caught us unprepared. As the
largest reconstruction project ever faced by the U.S. gets underway
we look at rebuilding hope.
Today,
a community hit by the eye of
the Katrina, Waveland, Mississippi. We’ll bring you the story
of a
man who hit the winds head on and survived, and what may be an even
greater wonder, volunteers moving in, determined to renew his
devastated town.
Hurricane
Katrina is the disaster
that has showed America just how fragile its support structures can
be. And now desperate people are reaching for resources they never
knew could be mobilized.
Veronica
Gill had only one place
left in Waveland to find anything to feed her family – Camp
Katrina- where a free café was provided by three churches
from
Alabama.Camp Katrina is about feeding and shopping
– all
for free. Food, clothes, hygiene and home needs, thousands lined up
for a new beginning…
Hear Brian Mollere's story of surviving a 30 feet storm surge that
destroyed the Waveland neighborhood he was hiding in. Pastor Jim
Blackwell (left) of Christian Life Church in Orange Beach was among the
first to arrive on the recovery scene and prays for Brian with Rev. Don
Young of Genesis Church. These churches have committed to a one year
project to rebuild and restore Waveland to economic and social health
after losing 65 % of its housing due to Hurricane Katrina. Join Listen
