Michael “Pinball” Clemons and Diane Clemons

Michael "Pinball" Clemons grew up in Dunedin and Clearwater, Florida. He attended the college of William and Mary, where in his best season, he compiled 2,000 all-purpose yards, and was named Division 1-AA All-American and the Virginia Major College Offensive -Player-of-the-Year.

In 2004, Michael "Pinball" Clemons became the first black coach in the history of the CFL to hoist the Grey Cup in victory, the culmination of an experience that began when he came to Canada in 1989 as an unheralded American football player deemed too small to make it in the National Football League.

Known for a personality that is as electric as his style of play on the field was, Clemons redefines the meaning of community involvement and has been recognized by many organizations for his tireless work with charities, schools and other community groups. Whether in uniform, on the sidelines, or in the front office, Pinball has always been one of Toronto's favourite personalities. Clemons, who has made application to become a Canadian citizen, and his wife Diane, along with their treasured daughters, Rachel, Raven, and Rylie, are proud to call Oakville home. Their recent trip to Uganda with Chrsitian Blind Mission was an unforgetable experience for both of them of which they explain on Listen Up's programme Invisible Crises: Sudan & Uganda.

CBMI 's mission is to rescue and restore people trapped in poverty by disability. These are the most forgotten people in the world.

Charles Okwir

Is the Founder/Team Leader of Victory Outreach Ministries in Uganda. For many years Charles has pastored the largest growing church in Lira, northern Uganda.

Victory Outreach Ministries has a boarding school in Lira of over 450 students. Some of them are child soldiers from southern Sudan who have been welcomed into the school. Though the first year was very difficult for these former child soldiers, the Lord is doing a work of healing in their lives and they have now integrated well into the school and academics.

Charles attended Pentecostal Bible Training Centre in Mbale, Uganda from 1983 – 1986. He also was able to do his B/A in Bible and Theology at Continental Theological Seminary in Belgium from1994 – 1995. Charles has ministered in Canada, Germany, Netherlands, theUSA, Kenya and the UK.

In his own words he writes:

My country Uganda has undergone several overthrows, the most dangerous one was when Idi Amin took power and ruled for 9 years. In 1971 – 1979, we saw rule of terror, dictatorship and murder. We saw all sorts of ill treatment. Children born around those years did not know what sugar, salt and soap look like. We lived in total darkness.

In 1973, May, The Lord spoke to me in broad day light about pastoral work. It was the most dangerous year. In obedience to God’s call, I came to Lira that year and the first sight was people put on line ready for slaughter. How I escaped that cruel evening, God alone knows. I have been arrested several times, taken to site of murder but God saved and spared my life. My friends, I have seen days; days of (sadness, laughter, protection above all we saw multitude turn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour).

For Christ alone was the only hope. Persecution erupted. Churches went underground and yet, these years, we saw explosion of churches even if there was persecution. May God’s name be praised for sometimes He works in ways we cannot tell. I thank God, that He allowed me to live in all these different overthrows. My greatest joy is to see the salvation of my people."
